Water Sewer Installations
WATER/SEWER INSTALLATIONS
Even though they are a bit different than “regular” trench shield projects, water and sewer projects have benefited from the use of trench shield technology for years.
EQUIPMENT NEEDS
Water Projects
Water line projects are typically some of the shallowest of the underground projects in which trench shielding equipment is required. General pipe length comes in around 20′. We have found that the Pro4 or the Pal4 trench shields provide the right amount of protection, depending upon the actual depth of the project. For either trench shield line, a 24’ long trench shield is optimal length, since it will provide just about 22’ of inside clearance (horizontally between the spreaders). Paired with spreaders that are at least 12” wider than the O.D. of the water pipe, this trench shield system will allow you to accomplish your project safely.
Sewer Projects
Deeper than water line projects, sewer projects present their own challenges. For pipe lengths around 12’, Pro-Tec Equipment recommends using trench shields 20′-24’ long. This length of trench shield will allow for the use of a compactor in the trench as well as enable two joints to come together. Depending upon the actual depth of the project, Pro4 or Pro6 trench shield maybe used, with Pro6 being the more common.
Every project is unique, with different depths and other extenuating circumstances, such as: soil conditions, water levels, existing utilities and other parameters. Please contact your local Pro-Tec Trench Shoring and Shielding provider with as many details as possible to ensure you are matched with the best trench shield or shoring equipment to fit your project’s particular needs.
